I have the M-Audio Keyrig49 and it works perfectly on Debian/Ubuntu/Mint. The setup is like: MIDI controller -> JACK (Qjackctl as a frontend) -> fluidsynth (Qsynth as a frontend) -> Monitors/Headphones. I've used with Linux MultiMedia Studio and it works too. No external drivers needed. Just make sure to have a proper JACK configuration. Share

Get a M-Audio or Edirol one, or some other well known quality brand, they cost a bit more but you will save yourself lots of headache. The M-Audio USB MIDI interfaces all work with Linux, I have a Midisport 2x2 and a Midisport 4x4 and they both work flawlessly, including large sysex dumps and SDS transfers. Updated list of Linux compatible audio interfaces ...

[2] RME9652 HDSP (PCI) audio side works OK but sending MIDI to its integrated MIDI interfaces cause xruns under Linux. This xrun problem on the 9652 goes away when separate USB MIDI interfaces are used instead of the onboard MIDI. I don't know whether my situation is unique or whether others have experienced similar issues.
