The bit depth can change between 16, 24, and 32 but the frequency is locked to the one that I set with the m-audio control and cannot be unlocked by other software for some stupid reason that I cannot fathom. I suspect that the problem is simple and is a change to a windows audio inf not the m-audio drivers which have always been rock solid.

also check to make sure your m-audio fast track is set to the same sampling rate. click on the ASIO button at the bottom of that pop up window and it will bring up the m-audio mixer panel. look on the hardware tab and make sure you do not have the sampling rate locked at something other than 44100 or 48000.
