The M-Audio BX5A Deluxe studio monitor system makes an excellent first pair of monitors. It offers up 70 watts of power which is fine for a nearfield monitor in a smaller bedroom or studio space. I've owned the previous model which was the BX5A and in comparing the two I have to say the new Deluxe model offers slightly better stereo imaging ...

The BX5a's are gentle when you want them to, and a workhorse when you need them to be. The BX5a's are pretty flat in their frequency range. M-Audio didn't try to "pull a fast one" and boost favourable frequencies to make you perceive the sound as good. I didn't test out many other models before buying the M-Audio's.

The M-Audio BX5a monitors sound superb! Just make sure you buy a sub for a fuller musical experience! Good luck and happy listening! Sound. The sound, as of right now, is nice and full, clear, crisp, and accurate. The highs aren't as shrill as others might say, but if you cut out anything above 2khz in a mix, it's gonna sound VERY dull in ...

I have two pair of these plus one BX10S 10" Studio Monitor Subwoofer, all driven by an M-Audio ProFire 610 FireWire Audio Interface. (I bought the first BX5a pair, tried them out, loved them; and bought the second pair a week later.) I use the system to create both stereo and 5.1 audio.

There's a new Deluxe version of the B5xa's that's recently come out, and M-audio's PR says they sound even better, which I find hard to believe. These little gems are a steal, and rank with VERY expensive audiophile components. Connect them via a Y cable to your Mac or PC and enjoy sound that blows Bose, Yamaha and Harmon Kardon speakers away.
