    The M-Audio interface is $120 and Guitar Rig it $400. For $520, you can get a really nice amp. Even for $150 you can get a really nice amp. But I digress... Cheaper? Generic Guitar Link cable for $9 and Free Amp for $0 gives you a good beginning setup for very cheap.

    I run my guitar through an M-Audio Fast Track USB interface into Guitar Rig 3 and it's really convenient. Since I'm pretty sure the interface can't be used directly in Audacity and I can't for the life of my get GR3 to work as a plug-in, I record directly onto the Guitar Rig tape deck, export the files as WAV then paste them into Audacity for editing/lining up etc. Kind of a pain …
