As such I've been looking at the M-Audio Flying cow and it's older incarnation the Midiman Flying Cow. I have heard these are both well rated as DACs and ADCs and wondered if anyone had used one. Also these only have coaxial connectors so I was wondering about how much effect an optical to coax converter would have. I presume such a thing exists.

I think that the Dman stereo card is very good, the only thing I did not like, is that is does not have a means to connect it to your CD-ROM drive internally, you have to run a cable from the outside of the CD-ROM round to the back of the machine and …

Anyone heard this DAC, or M-Audio's Flying Cow? Little else is requisite to carry a state to the highest degree of opulence from the lowest barbarism but peace, easy taxes, and a tolerable administration of justice: all the rest being brought about by the natural course of things.

DAC Magic is a bit expensive for what I need - only going on my iMac. Stroke of luck - just found a secondhand Flying Cow on eBay for £45 +postage, plus a couple of 1/4" to phono adaptors (£4) and an optical to coax convertor that I've got in my spares box, and I'm sorted for less than £60.
