The M-Audio monitors are not realistically flat. They sound super scooped in the bass. I A/B'd about a dozen a couple months ago for damn near an hour. I ended up with KRK RP8's. The RP5's should be fine, and you can always the sub later if you feel you need it. Skip the expensive isolation foam pads, they're a waste of money.

Audio engineer here - I have a pair of KRK Rockit 8s (and NS10s) but I use the KRKs to hear what my music will sound like on consumer systems. I use the NS10s to do my fine tuning "surgical" mixing. KRKs are not perfect.

I just purchased a pair of KRK Rokit 6's after extensive A/B'ing with the Mackie's and M-audio BX5a's or (8's) KRK really got things right with the new generation. I did not like the old generation but the G2's are great for the money.
