Apr 28, 2007. Messages. 19,952. The Audioengine A2+ has a -2dB point of 65Hz. The AV40s response is quoted as 85Hz, I assume this is -3dB. Neither can do deep bass, the Audioengine has for sure the lowest response. For deep bass with these speakers you will need a subwoofer. Inescapable. Oct 23, 2014.

I'm in an office and can't have a subwoofer, so these fit the bill. My source for these is Foobar2000 playing all kinds of MP3s as well as FLACs, and Internet radio. Amp is on-board Realtek High Definition Audio. The headphone jack sounds really good on my Koss KSC-35's, so I'm assuming that the onboard sound card is capable of decent sound.

The Audioengine A2+ speaker is an update to the old A2 speaker. The audioengine A2's are a fair bit smaller, but does that affect the sound quality in any way compared to the AV40's? If anyone has experience with either set and would recommend one over the other and why, that ...

I prefer the M-Audio AV40 over the Audioengine A2. Kept the AV40, returned the A2. That said, Audioengine said it was rare for someone to return A2's. I'm very happy with the A5's in my bedroom system. BTW, I find it's important to NOT simply plop the speakers down on a desktop. Get some air under the speaker.
