Re: M-Audio Audiophile 2496 Installation. Thanks for the help. AutoStatic, an lsmod shows the right modules are present for the card. I had overlooked the ignored I/O in the lspci output; appreciate the catch tux99. I disabled the internal audio as suggested by CrocoDuck, but cannot disable the NVidia audio.

I'm new to Linux in general and currently running Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon on my desktop computer. I've got everything I need work except my sound card which is an M Audio Audiophile 2496. After making the above changes as suggested I still only see my onboard sound and nvidia gfx card hdmi outputs as options.

It works in linux at least as well as the 2496, and the LT was actually the last of the m-audio PCI cards, and the one with the best s/n and thd specs. Note that's the 1010 LT, not the ironically higher priced non-LT version (with the rackmount dock). In fact, once a month I still ebay-stalk for an LT, just cause I'm fussy wanting better.

All 2496s are Audiophiles but not all Audiophiles are 2496s! Incidentally, i just checked on the m-audio website and the 2496 is about half the price of the USB unit. good and more expensive! -- Will J Godfrey http://www.musically.me.uk_______________________________________________ Linux-audio-user …

Drivers from M-Audio supporting 32 and 64Bit and the cards are also supported by ALSA (Linux). Good middle-range card. The PC I am installing it on had an Audigy2 card which actually sounded pretty good, but has issues in 24 bit mode, no crackling ever though.I could never get it set to a low latency..big problem there. 4damind KVRAF

The M-Audio 24/96 is a great card and works well with Linux. I am on my second one, having given the first one away with an old computer and regretted it. The sound is excellent and the latencies I get in 64 Studio are very low indeed. Depending on the distro's audio setup, you may need to edit some config files to get it working.
