Custom-built Quiet PC with Lynx L22 soundcard as Source? Hi, guys, I need some expert opinion on this matter, as I'm a total luddite. I'm building a system from scratch (if you've read my posts in the Entry Level: I'm deciding between Pathos Classic MK III or Leben CS600 integrated amps, coupled with Devore Gibbon speakers, most likely.)

The dynamics are superior on the e18. Transients have more attack, where the L22 is more rounded. There is a significant overall wall of sound that goes beyond the room boundary, something that is missing with the L22. The e18 just sounds much more real, more ‘analog’ where the Lynx is not going to fool anyone into thinking it’s not digital.

Reading some reviews of the Lynx L22 sound card, an employee from the company says they picked the best components available for the card. However, the card was released in 2002, which is seven years ago by now. I'll bet there have been numerous advances in converter technology etc. in those seven years.

In most cases the E22 is an excellent substitute for the Lynx L22. If you’re looking for the audio performance of a LynxTWO or Lynx Aurora converter in a two-channel format, the L22 PCI card is just what you need. L22 provides two 192 kHz analog channels and two 96kHz digital channels with the same audio engine as LynxTWO.

The soundstage went from a very significant 3D back to much more 2D. The L22 had a very limited front to back presentation, and was much less enveloping. The e18 sounds liquid, natural, and extremely detailed. The dynamics are superior on the e18. Transients have more attack, where the L22 is more rounded.

I'm partial to the M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 and the Terratec EWX 24/96, but just my opinion based on research (and extensive listening to the Audiophile 24/96 card). A major benefit with the Audiophile 24/96 is RCA jacks for analog input and output (good quality, solid ones too) as compared to the 1/8" minijacks on the M-Audio Revo (I hate ...
