No Lossless Audio With Zune - Tristan Watkins on IT ...

    https://tristanwatkins.com/no-lossless-audio-with-zune/
ZUNE does not support WMA lossless, so this article is a bit misleading. Media that is WMA lossless on a PC will remain at that quality, as soon as you load to a phone it converts them to the best setting under Settings -> Phone -> Conversion Settings. i.e 320 kbps. This is really an issue with the ZUNE software and not the device.

WMA comes in three flavors and the Zunes support them all - WMA, WMA Professional (both lossy) and WMA Lossless. WMA, of the three, has the best general support - some other legacy devices support it like Sansa's, Gigabeats etc. And WMA Lossless, although very little support outside of Zunes, does in fact work if you have to have lossless.

Can Zune HD actually play Lossless Audio? : Zune

I've confirmed it myself, it's indeed zune HD is playing lossless music files but at slightly lower bitrate as Zune client converts them to Zune HD as the picture shown below. My whole music library I made for Zune takes 26.4 GB while, it takes 22.53GB on Zune. 4.86Gb of 26.4 GB music library is lossy audio files.

I believe you're stuck with WMA lossless for the Zune. You could look at players that support Rockbox which will allow you to use most formats, including FLAC. Unfortunately, Rockbox only works on, for the most part, older mp3 players. γ1+γ2 PPA v2 + ε12 + STEPS Sennheiser HD-650 It's all about DIY. Dec 3, 2009 at 3:24 PM Post #3 of 4 iriverdude

I'm not sure what you mean. 1411.2 kbps is WAV. WMA-lossless comes out to something less because it's compressed, but it's a lossless compression, so you get the exact same information when it's uncompressed. I have an older Zune (4GB). I did the same test as mysqueakycat: I ripped a WMA-lossless file from a CD. It was 2:09 long, and it came out to …

I have tested this, it is possible to have wma lossless on the zune itself. Not sure why some people have issues with it getting auto converted. In short, I had to wipe my pc and pulled the files back off the zune to repopulate my pc with music. The …

Greetings: I have a Zune HD 32 GB. I have no clue which of the available audio formats, i.e., WMA (constant bit), WMA (variable bit), WMA (lossless), or MP3, would provide the best fidelity on playback. At this time, having 32 GB of storage capacity and perhaps a hundred CDs to rip, file size does not appear to be an issue.

So, lossless audio or not? : Zune - reddit

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Zune/comments/np5tjr/so_lossless_audio_or_not/
Any audio frequencies that aren't captured in an mp3 simply can't be heard, which is why I've seen some backers of FLAC and other lossless formats spew word salads talking about "feeling" music and such. So for the most part, lossless audio is just a waste of harddrive space.
