linux - What are XRuns? - Unix & Linux Stack Exchange

    https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/199498/what-are-xruns
Apparently (ubuntu forums thread), it's a buffer under-or-overrun, X stands for under or over. It's a sign that your system did not process some buffers in time, so some data is missed. It is particularly true when you run at very low buffer size where the sound card should process incoming buffers very fast (overrun).

Xruns - Independent ALSA and linux audio support site

    https://alsa.opensrc.org/Xruns
Usually xruns are audible as crackles or pops. Various kernel patches and strategies are available to minimise xruns under Jack , eg. kernel pre-emption and the Realtime Linux Security Module. At the time of writing (July 2004) these strategies are in a bit of a state of flux - see http://jackit.sourceforge.net/docs/faq.php#a5 for the latest.

xruns - Linux - Ardour

    https://discourse.ardour.org/t/xruns/88416
The current xruns occur at Jack but causes crackling in the sound system it might also interfere with recording. Ardour does not use a lot of CPU power , about 2%. However Ardour uses Memory 277000k and shared memory 150000k. That is with 3 very small miditracks and a very small Audio track.

Latency compensation and xrun reduction tips - Linux Audio

    https://wiki.linuxaudio.org/wiki/latency
6 - In the terminal, use ctrl-C to stop jack_iodelay. 7 - In Cadence or Claudia, open the JACK settings and enter the value X from jack_iodelay for both the the input and output extra latency values. 8 - Engage the new JACK settings with the “Switch Master” button. If you re-run the above test there should be no additional loopback latency.

Fortunately, freezing and unfreezing tracks seems to be super easy, so I can work around that. I always set governor to "performance", using dynamic CPU freq will cause xruns no matter what DAW you run. Also some wireless modules gives a big impact to USB audio interfaces, only workaround - unload wifi/bt module.

Will PipeWire solve the xruns problem? : linuxaudio

Your second faulty premise is that xrun trouble is the problem that prevents people from using Linux for audio. The number one reason people don't use Linux for audio is that is that they don't use Linux at all, they don't think about the OS at all and instead look for a DAW that works on the OS they already have.

Kernel 5.14 USB audio, extreme Xruns : linuxaudio

Kernel 5.14 USB audio, extreme Xruns. ... It's OK but I'm looking fo a Linux compatible interface with at least 16 physical inputs that can output 16 or more channels over USB. There's the OctPre expansion for the Scarlett but as I understand it, it just for mics. I need something that can do 16 balanced or Unbalanced line level inputs.
