What *really* happens with audio CDs in KDE 4.x?

    https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/what-%2Areally%2A-happens-with-audio-cds-in-kde-4-x-810717/
I've run into something very interesting over the past several months with audio CDs and KDE 4.3.1. Background: I've got two computers running Slackware 13 --stable with Vincent Batts's KDE 4.3.1 packages. One of them is a desktop running Slackware64 and the other is a laptop running 32-bit Slackware.

KIO AudioCD - KDE Applications

    https://apps.kde.org/kio_audiocd/
KIO AudioCD is a KIO slave that enables KIO-aware applications (such as Dolphin or k3b) to access audio and CD text data on the audio compact disks. It allows transparent drag and drop conversion of audio data into the popular formats and has a configuration System Settings module available in the "Multimedia" section.

MP3 (or MPEG-1 Audio Layer III) is a patented digital audio codec using a form of lossy data compression. In spite of its shortcomings, it is a common format for consumer audio storage, and is widely supported on portable music players. Audiocd IO slave uses the LAME encoder to produce mp3 files.

audiocd. Allows treating audio CD s like a “real” filesystem, where tracks are represented as files and, when copied from the folder, are digitally extracted from the CD. This ensures a perfect copy of the audio data. To see how this slave works, insert an audio CD in your CD-ROM drive and type audiocd:/ into Konqueror.

No sound/audio in KDE4 • KDE Community Forums

    https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?t=85584
Apparently, the MacPorts KDE4 packages depend on Qt's implementation of Phonon (using QuickTime backed). So, the Qt+Phonon+QuickTime system seems to be working. It's getting KDE to connect to that system that seems broken. The KDE3 packages on MacPorts all warn of no sound support. There's no warning like this for KDE4.

Problems playing AudioCD in KDE 4.5 / Multimedia and Games ...

    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=109930
Problems playing AudioCD in KDE 4.5. Yesterday I decided I would revisit KDE4. I had tested KDE4.2 before, worked OK but it kept running into some issues and I couldn't really use compositing because the state of the open source ATi drivers wasn't up to it. So I went back to Openbox and I've been quite happy there since, so that's my main stay now.

Ripping audio CD to FLAC - Dolphin/KDE 4 wierd behaviour

Ripping audio CD to FLAC - Dolphin/KDE 4 wierd behaviour. I'm writing this post for something that I can't even claim to be an issue. Yesterday I decided to rip some CDs of mine to FLAC format. At first I went to K3b but the application can't …
