ALSA as audio server instead of Pulseaudio? • KDE ...

    https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?t=118763
In order to function fully, Pulseaudio occupies all ALSA devices - so while it might be possible in theory, it is discouraged and applications in general will attempt to use Pulseaudio if it is present (and in many cases will fail to work if they cannot interact with it if it is running on your system). Re: alsa && pulseaudio && kde != sound If that is your whole setup for snd-hda-intel, you did not use vid and pid at all. Read the chapter in the link I provided again to the end, there is a example.

[SOLVED] KDE= Pulseaudio+Pipewire? / Applications ...

    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=273214
You can drop PulseAudio and just use PipeWire on top of ALSA by installing the pipewire-pulse package. No idea if that's optimal for KDE though. In fact, I was thinking along those lines, but when I tried to install "pipewire-pulse", the terminal gave me a list of kde packages that use the regular pulseaudio as a dependency, so I got worried I would kill my Plasma desktop.

Sound Problems - KDE UserBase Wiki

    https://userbase.kde.org/Sound_Problems
OSS provides a device for sound output. This device can only be accessed by one application at a time. To decrease confusion, ALSA emulates OSS and also provides a device as interface to the sound card. As well ALSA as OSS calls the device for the sound card /dev/dsp usually. PulseAudio, in some distros, provides another layer above these. Its job is to handle multiple …

Restart pulse audio with this command: pulseaudio --kill; sleep 1; pulseaudio --start 4. Go to KDE phonon settings > Audio Hardware setup and select the new profile. Now you should see both profile in the mixed and so you'll be able to switch easy: I would suggest to use this plasmoid mixer: https://store.kde.org/p/1100894/

Alsa works well with GSstreamer. You can build a kde4 system using an alsa backend if you choose the alsa backend instead of the default. You just need to make sure that when installing other apps that provide an option of using pulseaudio or alsa that you select the option for whatever backend you chose. When you build KDE4 with the alsa option, KDE4 will …
