So again, I’ll say that this one is only just worth buying. You have to meet these two requirements. 1. Own the first game. 2. Love the gameplay but think it’s gotten too easy. There’s a lot missing to this game, but it’s only an early access so it’s going to be very bare bones.

AudioSurf for PC Reviews - Metacritic

    https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/audiosurf
Of all the games in this feature, Audiosurf is the one most reassuringly rich in innovation and potential, and proves beyond question that plastic instruments and pricey downloadable content are not the be-all and end-all of the rhythm action genre.

While I believe Audiosurf 1 is better than Audiosurf 2 in some ways, Audiosurf 2 is in no way "awful." Maybe it was close to awful in the beginning, but it has since come a long way. Even more so with the pre-release build.

Audiosurf 2 is a lane based Rhythm game where the tracks are created by the music you are playing. ... There is nothing wrong with that but it does make it a bit of a hard bargain to buy a new game to do essentially the same thing. In a rather rare move for a game on the PC there is a demo available to actually see for yourself if this game is ...

Audiosurf 1, is way more simple but that does not make the game worse. I personally think audiosurf 1 is the best, because its simple and yet entertaining. I've played it for several years and i can still play for hours. As long as i have got the music which i want to play. 1 level 1 · 7 yr. ago Two 1 More posts from the makemychoice community 19

Review: Audiosurf (PC) | The Gameshelf

With its musical versatility, fast pace, low system requirements, online scoreboards and incredibly cheap price of $9.95, this is definitely worth buying for anyone who wants to play a rhythm game that doesn't force the player to "be in sync or else" and wants an arcade-style experience.

Well Audiosurf 1 is cheaper, so that's probably the main reason to buy the first rather than the sequel. Otherwise, as scayman said, Audiosurf 2 has workshop support which allows you to use a large variety of skins and game modes (the original audiosurf only has 3 skins in comparison).

Audiosurf is great for all kinds of music while Symphony and Beat Hazard are better for faster music. If you want a 'shmup with your own music go for one of the latter two but if you just want to sit back and enjoy music with a game to keep you intrigued I'd pick Audiosurf.
