I've got a 2G ipod touch that plays no sound whatsoever. The weird thing is that when I play music, the song resets and goes back to the music menu. I've already reset it multiple times and it's no longer under warranty. Could it be a hardware problem> My daughter has my 2nd generation and reports the same problem after updating!

Dirt in the audio jack may cause a bad connection, resulting in bad audio quality. Shut down the iPod Touch by holding the sleep/wake button, then sliding the red slider. Try inserting a slightly damp, small cotton swab into the audio jack and rotate it a few times, then remove the cotton swab. Turn on the iPod Touch and check the audio quality again.

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this problem. I'm a long time mac and apple user and have tried (nearly) everything. My iPod 2nd gen, about 2 1/2 years old now, has stopped externally playing sound. What's confusing me is that not only does it not play sound, it hides a volume option when not plugged into headphones or speaker dock.
