avaudiorecorder - Sample rate for iPhone audio recording ...

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1622307/sample-rate-for-iphone-audio-recording
On the iPhone with the built-in microphone, you're going to get a maximum of 8 kHz. If you use a headset, you can get 44.1 kHz. If you're using the built-in mic and setting your recording sample rate to 44.1 kHz, you're upsampling the audio, which is unnecessary and generates the big files you mention. Also, make sure you record in mono.

iPhone 6s sample rate quality issu… | Apple Developer …

The iPhone 6s RemoteIO Audio Unit appears to default to a hardware sample rate of 48000 sps. When my app requests a preferred output sample rate of 44100 on an iPhone 6s, the automatic resampling from 48k to 44.1k appears to be low quality and noisy (appears to adds a lot of spectral aliasing).

What is the maximum sample rate/bit depth of the iPhone ...

I'm 99.9% sure it's 48kHz, 16-bit Mono (or Stereo if you have a plug-in mic of some sort which supports Stereo). I use the FiRe app which is one of the most comprehensive and professional-geared recording apps, and that's the max it supports. On older iPhones like the 3G I believe it was only 44.1kHz.
