I've had a great deal of experience scanning 35mm slides with an old, very slow scanner that recently gave out. The ION scanner seemed exactly what I needed--compact, fast, easy to use and 2592 x 1680 dpi resolution. I scanned about 15 slides I had scanned previously with my old 1200 dpi scanner. There was no comparison. The ION scanned images were inferior in every way.

I purchased the Ion Film 2 SD (35MM Film and Slide Scanner). I read all the reviews on this website, not trusting, traveled to a Best Buy store for a more hands on view of the product. I'm so happy with the ease of operation, quality of pictures I scanned from slides and negatives. How it copies a negative to a full colored photo I have no idea!

A sharp, clean 35mm slide results in an out-of-focus blob. I am sure I followed the directions for correct setup and calibration. I tried every resolution possible. It's probably not necessary for most people to spend $2K for the Nikon, but Plustek makes one for around $250 that gets decent reviews (the OpticFilm 7300). I am anxious to try it.
