According to this post, 10.6.8 is not needed to upgrade, but this information appears to be out-of-date; this Mac App Store update is necessary to download El Capitan, but is not offered on 10.6.7. Any suggestions how I could proceed?

Thanks a million to Hibernian56 and whoever made kext-utility!! No thanks to apple for not testing their software properly and wasting my time with hours of reading online!!! Im on 10.6.8 on both machines. The problem with the kext file that was updated by itunes 10.7 was that the machine no longer detected the iphone thru the usb cable.

Posted August 22, 2011. Hi all, I'm trying to add VRAM to my Snow Leopard OSX guest OS, but it's limited to 8 MB even though I set the guest Video Memory to max 128 in VirtualBox guest settings. I also noticed if I use the built in VirtualBox EFI feature, the VRAM limits to 4 MB! Even worse, that firmware doesn't support resolutions over 1440x900.

I upgraded to/from the same version. I had to run the combo update, then install legacy kernel 10.8.0 v2, repaired permissions with kext utility, then used 10.6.8 helper to install the "after" tools and additional kexts. I'm on amd and it works flawlessly. I don't know if you need to replace any system kexts on an intel machine.
