My 24" intel iMac won't read audio cds. It ejects them after about 15 seconds. I have virtually never played cds on this machine in five years. It plays dads with no problem. Anybody have any feedback. I also saw a fix by deleting some presence files.

Check your software Check your Finder preferences. With the Finder active, from the Finder menu, select Preferences.... Click the General icon, and look under "Show these items on the Desktop:". Make sure CDs, DVDs, and iPods is checked. If it isn't, when you insert a CD or DVD, its icon will appear in Finder windows, but not on the desktop itself.

Hi Albos, This is a known problem. These superdrives die after a while. See the various threads on this site and the internet. I have the same problem with my Imac 20" 2.16 ghz. Just wants to burn and read cd's. Its has to do with the laser. For DVD an CD are two different laser and the one for DVD's has probably died in yours (as it did in mine).
