I have connected both the red and white audio wires from the PS3 to my Phillips tv, however the sound only is heard on the AV video function, but the HD video (which is connected via the HDMI-DVI cable) is only displayed on the HD video function on the TV. I do not own a PS3, but I'm positive that a DVI cable can only pass through video signals only. So theoretically if you use a HDMI to DVI cable you will not get sound only visuals because DVI is for visuals not sound! HDMI cable should be avoided for audio unless you have the proper equipment such as a compatible AV receiver.

Make sure you have actually selected HDMI as the output. Hold the power "button" down for about 5 seconds, and it will reset the video and detect that HDMI is being used. I am guessing that you might have had component or composite video selected, and you can't see a picture because the PS3 will only output one kind of video or sound at a time.

Thanks Skidu, but I'm really after a good quality, standard HDMI cable and the HDMI>DVI-D adaptor. Cable needs to be around 2m long. That way, I can run the PS3 through my monitor (using the adaptor) when my girlfriend is watching TV, and I can plug it in to the 32" Panasonic (via just the HDMI cable) when she's in bed or for watching Blu-Ray DVD's.
