Ok now lets clear something here. I own a HIS 3850 iceQ3 turbo card. It has no HDMI out connector, but it has a DVI to HDMI dungle. My display actually is a 32" HD TV that is HDMI connected with the mentionned dungle to a DVI port. The sound does work. There is an audio driver bundled with the driver CD.

Don't be alarmed. This is because the HD3850 card drivers are trying to use the HDMI output from the card for your BIG LCD TV. If you want to continue to use your frumpy small LCD monitor <like me> simply go into the Windows XP device manager and disable <do not delete> the selection for HD audio output.
