DRC - Dynamic Range Compression - HandBrake

    https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/latest/technical/audio-drc.html
The dynamic range of an audio track is the difference between the softest and loudest sounds. Dynamic range compression reduces the gap between those extremes. On the Audio tab, each track provides an option to set the level of compression you wish. 1.0-2.5 are good values to use. 0, the default, turns it off completely.

1.0-2.5 are good values to use. 0, the default, turns it off completely. 1.0 uses the compression hints embedded in the AC3 track. Values greater than 1.0 compress the range further by boosting the volume of soft sound samples while leaving loud samples as they are.

level 1 NovelExplorer · 6m No, also DRC serves no function 'unless' the source audio is AC3. If you don't mind an additional stage, I'd recommend using EAC3To audio encoder tool, rather than Handbrake, to encode the secondary AAC (or even a main AC3) soundtrack. Handbrake can't encode from DTSHD (it encodes using the lossy DTS core).

Handbrake has a gain control, but it is not displayed by default, and it is not available if you chose to "pass through" the audio from the source to the destination. On the audio tab, on the right side of the track listing (next to the red X for delete), there is an arrow (at least on the Windows GUI), that will make available additional ...

Change the bitrate to 768 or 640kbps and I never use DRC. Let your Soundbar's Dolby decoder handle the mixdown. If you want better sound quality, encode the track externally using EAC3To Audio Software. It won't encode to E-AC3 but will encode to AC3 using your DTS-HD track and sound a lot better than your current Handbrake DTS > E-AC3 encode.
