OK, disregard my previous post. I was just fooling around with Squeeze's settings, and it looks like when I choose an H264 mp4 file and set the audio bit rate higher, the choice for 5.1 surround appears. I'll do a test at 1080p23.976 with 5.1 audio and report back.

Over the past year I've ripped all the hundreds of DVDs I own using Handbrake, encoded with H.264 as an M4V file with full AAC 5.1 channel audio. When I play these back using VLC, it downmixes the audio to Stereo. However, I'd love to be able to play these movies back on my big screen TV.

I have an Xbox 360 and a PS3 eagerly awaiting to play my movie collection, but I can’t find a good solution for storing the files on the WHS and streaming to the TV/stereo. I want h.264 video and 5.1 audio (does it have to be AC3? – I’m not positive). I tried Tversity on the WHS installed through remote desktop, but never got it running well.
