    There's a great article on the wiki about getting pulseaudio up and running. Go through it and it should just work.. If it doesn't, make sure alsa works. If speaker-test produces sound, then it does. Once you're certain alsa works, emerge pavucontrol, it's a fine GUI tool for managing basic pulseaudio settings.Set nvidia as your default playback device and it should just work.
