By default, FreeBSD just utilizes one device: pcm0. The OP stated "speakers work" but speakers could be on the Monitor via an HDMI feed or separate speakers from the back panel jack. Can you pin this down? Overall, you need to determine which device is wired to the internal speakers and which is wired to the HP jack.
