fmr rnc vs. fmr rnla Eventually I'll have both racked side-by-side, but I was wondering the major differences here. From general reading, the RNC seems to be very transparent (almost an EQ mastering tool), while the RNLA adds a ton of color and spectral content to really thicken up a sound.

RNC vs. RNLA. Member 27 April 2006 vs , RNC compressor , fmr audio , compressor , RNC vs. RNLA , RNLA , I was planning on buying one of each, but now I'm wondering how dramatic the difference is between them. I get the impression that the RNLA is just a more colorful version of the RNC, but maybe I'm wrong.

FMR Audio RNC500 & RNLA500 - Sound on Sound

    https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/fmr-audio-rnc500-rnla500
FMR mention in their QuickStart Guide (the manual wasn't ready) that the RNC500 adds a little 'heft' to the bottom end, and it certainly had a nice low-end 'weight'. The RNLA500 imparts a wonderfully thick-sounding smoothness to the audio signal, and feels less aggressive.

Tape Op | Why is the FMR RNLA less popular? - Message Board

    https://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=70329
The RNLA is darker, and a little more obvious than the RNC. Great on drums, and it can sound great when you drive it just a little too hard. But I don't get the same magic, "aha!" moments from the RNLA that I get from the RNC. I also think the strength of the RNLA - it's colour - is also it's weakness, because it makes it less versatile.

FMR RNLA "Really Nice Leveling Amplifier" - Tom's Guide

    >amps/compressors, the RNLA still fills a niche that the others don't! > >The sonic performance of the RNLA harkens back to the Really Nice >Compressor's (RNC's) origins. The original RNC was, in fact, based >upon an optical gain element that was ultimately rejected (and tucked >away) due to its imparting of a sonic signature (i.e., "color").

The RNC has Attack, Release, Threshold & Ratio controls so yes you've got a lot of controls I just find the sound of the box to be more subtle than I like and again when I want subtle and clear I prefer my Sonalksis plugin. That's just me. There's some good reading about Super Nice Mode here: FMR Audio RNC SUPER NICE MODE
