There was a further mod of the 3910 with the post-dac filter parts largely replaced. I did not have this unit but heard it.

I too owned an Exemplar 3910 for many years (and loved it). A couple years ago, I tried an Oppo 95. It was clearly inferior to the Exemplar in my audio system, but I do use it in my video system. Recently, I bought a Modwright-modified Oppo 105. It is clearly superior to the Exemplar/Denon in my audio system. I am very happy. I hope this helps ...

The Exemplar 3910 should be one heck of a unit. The redbook on my Exemplar 2900 is almost as good as the Cary 306 SACD and a significant more refine than the Cambridge 840C that I used to have. Quote

All of Exemplar's upgrades (except XLR outputs) were done to this unit. The RCA outputs sound just as good as the XLR’s because they benefit equally from Exemplar's balanced audio circuit upgrade, so the xlr’s are not necessary. All standard functionality is maintained, and everything is installed within the Denon 3910.
