The Connect Xbox 360 Audio support article mentioned by Ohnaka is a good place to start. If you're connecting via optical then just connect directly to the optical port on the back or your 360 S or original 360 (if it has one). If it doesn't have one then you'll need to purchase an audio adapter like this one and connect it that way. The 360 E doesn't have an optical port.

Nice picture in place, still no sound. Underneath the DVI port on the TV are red and white inputs for audio, I used the component cable that the XBOX came with to make the connection using the 3.5 mm output jack on the XBOX to the audio inputs directly under the DVI input on the TV. Problem solved, fully operational with both audio and video.
