You can record just audio from an external source (DVD player) to a DVD recorder and create an audio DVD, as described here for Philps and Magnvox recorders (same op fo most any recorder). You have to select the Line input on the recorder (front or back) and, apparently, your recorder doesn't like both front and back connected and receiving input simultaneously?
