The Desire Doesn't have the ability to transmit music via the usb connector so I cant see it happening. The Nexus one is the same but gets past this with its dock by charging through the gold connector points on its base and then uses bluetooth for the audio.

The base of the dock was cut to take the right angle micro usb lead and cable exit in the middle of the back of the dock. The dock was then polished with Tru-Oil and then buffed to give a smooth finish, the usb lead was then fitted and some rubber feed added to the base so it doesn't move on the shelf. Like I've read, there is no audio over USB support built-in to our mighty Desire. I tried a few different microUSB to 3.5mm jack adapters from ebay - even one declared as for HTC Desire. Checked the usb-pins-assignment also and it seems that HTC hasn't built in (or turned off) that function in opposite to some other manufacturers.
