The Diskstation can do EXACTLY what I want it to do when I run Serviio as DLNA server on it. There's a bug in the built in DLNA server that causes the audio/video to go out of sync. It is not a question of not enough cpu power on the NAS as you sarcastically propose.

There is however a low cost DLNA renderer called Arctic Audio Relay from a Swiss company called Arctic Cooling: in the UK it costs around 60GBP = approx $90 US.
