back to Beyerdynamicback to measurementshome published: Feb-06-2022 NO SMOOTHING is applied to the shown plots. Most measurement sites have some smoothing applied which ‘irons flat’ sharp peaks and ‘wiggles’. I do not use smoothing because some info about sound quality is lost when plots are smoothed. Aside from a small correction of the microphone itself…

Passive filters | DIY-Audio-Heaven

    https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/headphones/passive-filters/
home updated: Jan-27-2022 Each filter is purpose made for a specific headphone (see list below) and can NOT be used for other headphones. There thus is no ‘universal’ filter. Passive filters can ONLY attenuate. (Substantial) peaks in frequency response are far more sound degrading than dips. This is what these filters do they remove emphasis…

HD650 | DIY-Audio-Heaven

    https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/headphones/measurements/brands-s-se/hd650/
An early (black screen) HD650 fitted with new pads. A HD650 from 2017 (silver screen) and the fixed but ‘veiled’ HD650 (2014) below. (mind the dB scale which is 2dB/div in this plot) The veiled HD650 (a 2014 silverscreen by the way) clearly has 3 to 4 dB less output compared to the quite new HD650 (2017).

home back to headphones updated: Feb-02-2022 A set of measurements is just a tool which can be part of an evaluation of a headphone. My measurements are made with imperfect (and cheap) microphones and pre-amplifiers, headphone amplifier and ADC/DAC which all have their limits that may well be reached before those of the measured device…

ATH-A700X | DIY-Audio-Heaven

    https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/headphones/measurements/audio-technica/ath-a700x/
The ATH-A700X is not a neutral headphone. It has a distinct tonal balance. With a good seal the bass is a bit muddy but a small seal leakage is enough to make it sound a bit better in the lows. The sound is a bit ‘off’ in the mids and has a weird sound to it. This is caused by the substantial dip in the 3kHz region.
