    I know what a subsonic filter is for. The basic idea is to filter out frequencies that are below your port tuning frequency so that your subwoofer doesn't rip itself apart (exceed Xmax, or even Xmech) if you're cranking it up while running really low bass through it. I'm sure that if I were competing is an SPL contest that I would want a subsonic filter.
