    The AV receiver should be set to auto detect rather than DD-EX. DirecTV receivers output DD or PCM depending on the channel. DD-EX is really of benefit only for DVDs with such encoding and auto will detect those anyway. Whether or not that will help your specific situation I couldn't tell you. If you are using HDMI for audio, try optical instead.
