I've had a long history of Audio-Sync problems with Directv. Mine are caused (per Directv) because I am constantly recording/deleting programs. What fixes this (for me) is if I 'double' reboot the receiver, the red button pressed, then pressed again to interrupt the reboot. Works every time.

As a test try removing the A/V receiver from the loop and directly connecting the HR54 to the TV with the HDMI cable. Try changing the HR54 Audio Setup settings to disable "Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio". Your TV can't provide DD5.1 audio from its speakers, and often changing to 2-ch PCM audio fixes this sort of issue.

Both outputs are alway live on the DirecTV receivers. you need however to configure the Onkyo to get the audio from the optical input. I recently upgraded to 4K with the Genie and UHD mini's. When I had my 4k Samsung TV installed I started getting audio dropouts for about 1 second every 5 minutes. Very annoying.

Connect surround sound to DirecTV genie box. Now obviously the genie box doesn’t have ports for the rca connectors. I know there’s a way around this whether it be to go from the tv itself to the surround sound or what. HDMI from genie to receiver input then HDMI out from receiver to TV. Buy a new receiver.

Mar 19, 2007. I've been pondering potentially updrading my AV receiver to one of those 7.1 units that decodes all these new HD audio codecs. I know I can take advantage of the newer audio formats with my BluRay and HD DVD players. The question is, will DirecTV ever provide any programs in audio formats other than DD 5.1?

For audio, plug the red and white ends of cable 2 into the matching red and white output ports on the back of the receiver. Plug the other red and white ends of the cable into the matching input ports on the TV. (You won’t use the yellow end.) Make sure you selected the correct TV input source.
