Hi - I am a new subscriber to DirecTv as of 4-20-2012 and I have the HR-34. I'm experiencing some pixelization/screen breakup and audio dropouts that are affecting mostly just my local HD channels (although I do notice odd picture anomalies on the Tennis Channel too).

Both outputs are alway live on the DirecTV receivers. you need however to configure the Onkyo to get the audio from the optical input. I recently upgraded to 4K with the Genie and UHD mini's. When I had my 4k Samsung TV installed I started getting audio dropouts for about 1 second every 5 minutes. Very annoying.

Hello, I have also been having this exact same problems with audio-dropout affecting VOD only on DIRECTV. I also called them and they told me the same thing "they know about the problem and are sending a report to engineering to try to get it fixed" but it seems this has been happening for a long time now and they still haven't fixed it.

The audio codec "skips", and the sound drops out. You can switch from Dolby Digital to "Off" on your DirecTV receiver - and you will find that these dropouts practically disappear (they are still there but drastically reduced so as to be almost inaudible - I doubt I would have noticed them at all had I not known where to look).

I have had several audio dropouts on things I have recorded. It ranges from things on Discovery to Showtime. I had zero of these problems until I switched to the HD. I havent noticed it on live tv, but I rarely watch live tv. I plan on going back to std service. I would rather have std def tv and audio vs audio that is cutting out every 3 minutes.
