Brothers In Arms is, for me, an album that defines an era. It transports me back to a time and a place, more than stimulating memory, it makes me feel like I am a teenager again, picking up my guitar, wanting to play the Money For Nothing riff. Yes Dire Straits recorded better songs and arguably better albums but none ever had the impact of this one.

The DVD-A definitely sounds warmer and more pleasant to my ears. Bass is slightly more pronounced and deep, while mids and highs are clean but not overly bright. The bass boom in The Man's Too Strong is powerful and clean - one of my favorite parts of the disc. The SACD is definitely hotter and brighter.

For the record, I WAS not a big a Dire Straits fan until I listened to the 20th Anniversary Edition SACD that was released in 2005. Every time I did a Google search on the Top Ten 5.1 Multi channel SACD, Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon was always number 1 and Dire Straits's Brothers in Arms was either number 4 or 5.

Audioholic. Jul 7, 2005. #1. Got this one two weeks ago. I like Dire Straits but avoided Brother in Arms due to it being so overplayed when it was first released. My favorite was always the first album. I have to say that the new SACD release is awesome. The mixing is very good and doesn't distract by being overly gimmicky.
