digital pots available for audio control such as logarithmic taper pots (log pots). It examines several common designs using log taper pots and audio amplifiers, evaluates their advantages and disadvantages, and recommends circuit designs. A similar version of this article appeared in the January 7, 2002 issue of EE Times magazine. Introduction

If I use the digital potentiometer in audio volume control ...

    https://www.analog.com/en/education/education-library/faqs/faq_if_i_use_the_digital_potentiometer_in_audio.html
If I use the digital potentiometer in audio volume control, will I experience zipper noise? There is a noticeable zipper noise. However, we have developed an external zero-crossing detector that effectively reduces the zipper noise. Please refer to AD5290 datasheet Audio …

Digital potentiometer as volume control | diyAudio

One nice thing you can do with digital pots and attenuators that is extremely hard/expensive to do with analog pots is setting balance by putting an offset on one of the digital pots. Also, channel to channel matching is usually excellent with digital pots so you can easily make multichannel volume pots that will track perfectly for the next 20 ...

Using Digital Potentiometers - Circuit Cellar

    https://circuitcellar.com/research-design-hub/using-digital-potentiometers/
For many applications, this is not an issue. But when a digital potentiometer is used as a volume control, it is possible to hear an audible click when the switches open and close. One way to avoid this is to only allow the volume to be changed on zero-crossings of the input signal. This makes the switch transitions inaudible.

The mechanical 10K pot has been replaced with a 10K AD5245 Digital pot. Here is how the pot is wired up: A = Pin for of Arduino Uno B = GND W = Pin 3 of the Amplifier SDA = A4 SCL = A5 AD0 = GND Vdd = 5V (Arduino) GND = GND I tested out a simple program to check the adjustments of volume and here is the code: tone(4, 261); //Output tone on pin 4 and ...

Dual Log Audio Digital Potentiometer - Maxim Integrated

    https://www.maximintegrated.com/en/products/analog/data-converters/digital-potentiometers/DS1882.html
The DS1882 is a dual, nonvolatile (NV) digital potentiometer designed to operate in audio systems that accomodate up to ±7V signal levels. The potentiometer settings can be stored in EEPROM so that they are retained when the power is cycled. The DS1882 has separate supplies for the potentiometers (V CC) and the communication circuitry (V DD). For clickless/popless …

    https://www.circuitstoday.com/digital-volume-controller
This is the circuit diagram of a digital volume controller for any sort of audio amplifiers or almost any circuit where a mechanical potentiometer is there(conditions apply). Simple and low cost, the heart of the circuit is DS 1669 digital potentiometer IC from Dallas Semiconductors. The circuit has no external components other than two pushbutton switches …

Well, there’s one more twist to add into the mix: upsampling DACS. Most modern DACS upsample the 16 bits to 32 bits and THEN perform the volume changes. So depending on how the DAC is designed, most of the volume changes you might experience are “free” for the usable volume ranges on 16 bit audio.

noise - Audio: Digital Potentiometer is Noisy Compared to ...

    https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/501909/audio-digital-potentiometer-is-noisy-compared-to-analog-potentiometer
Usually audio signals are centered around zero so when the signal goes negative, the potentiometer will clamp the voltage which messes with the audio. To fix this you would need to add a DC bias so that the signal stays within the 0-5V range. Also these potentiometers aren't rated for high current so you might kill them in an audio application.
