I have the option to take the AVR-689 back to the shop and exchange it for either a Denon AVR-590 or an ONKYO TX-SR606 for an additional $200. The 590 is only 5.1 and has no multi zone though (but I'm not particularly concerned), whereas the Onkyo does, but they both support the new HD codecs + audio over HDMI (+video upscaling) unlike the 689.

At 8 ohms, the AVR-689 delivered 85 watts RMS into 8 ohms (two channels) before a rapid rise to clipping (1% THD+N) at 110 volts. At 4 ohms, the output was 110 watts, then a rise to clipping at 140 watts. Notice that at 4 ohms, distortion begins to rise rapidly at 20 watts, whereas at 8 ohms, it begins the rapid rise at 85 watts.

The 689 will not convert analog to HDMI output, however, so you will need to run two cables from the 689 to the TV, one component for analog sources, and one HDMI for digital sources. In this setup, you will need these cables: 1. PS3 connected to 689 with HDMI for video + digital audio cable for audio 2.
