As far as I can tell from the Dell website the UZ2711 does not have built-in speakers therefore of course you will not get any sound from it. Apple disable volume control if the interface being used to send the audio is a digital interface i.e. Displayport or HDMI.

U2711 has audio pass through which output audio in form of aux 3.5mm. I can't seem to get any audio output using this method. I tried SPDIF optical directly to my speaker and that works. My speaker set is a Logitech Z-5500. I'd prefer using analogue connection as the DAC in Z-5500 is not as good I don't think.
