The Decware Zen SE84 C is also probably the easiest way for a neophyte to get into tubes. With on-board gain control, all you need to do is plug in your CD player, attach some speakers, and you’re good to go. No pre-amp necessary. Granted, it …

The Decware Zen Triode SE84UFO2 is an interesting little amplifier. Like many SET amps, it’s low-powered at 2.3 watts per channel while utilizing zero feedback. There are achingly few components in the audio signal path (besides, of course the driver/output tubes and output transformers), namely two resistors and a capacitor.

I owned a Decware SE84B purchased directly from Decware. A few things I found out rather quickly. I doubt it produced 2WPC At less than 1% THD. At the time 2 different output transformers were available. I opted for the 8 Ohm version. (Modern versions now have a high low selector.) It NEEDED to have a preamp in front of it to sound decent.

I have a PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium HP (40W/ch in Triode and 70W/channel Ultra Linear), and I am not 100% sure. It sounds great on vocals etc, just rock type of music which needs some woofer movement, makes we wonder if I have enough power. (Again, I am not sure…. Sometime it seems a bit thin, but when I crank the volume, then it seems OK.

Re: Tone Audio's Review of Decware's Zen Mystery Amp... Seems like Jeff is a big fan of the Torii and the ZMA, although, as he states in the ZMA review, he is "saving up" for the Torii monos for his retirement. Kev/Joe...there is always time to check them out in the future when the bug bites. Cyril.
