Vari Audio is easier to use, the version of Melodyne that I used, I had to use it as rewire and go into the plugin to tell it what track to record then I had to let the track play while Melodyne recorded the part. That may have changed by now? I use Vari audio everyday, I can flatten bad vibrato, quantize notes, shorten them or make the longer.

variaudio is just as good as you does not hear a pitching effect on most pitched notes ±1tone. If you go extreme up to ±1 octave you can hear the effect of course but the sound does not sound just pitched, the algo tryes to hide the mickey mouse effect as good as melodyne does (my subjective notice).

Yeah, VariAudio has nailed the implementation very well, and as mentioned it’s easier to make natural slides. But it does go towards distortions more easily than Melodyne when challenged by gravelly vocals or spitty delivery. Personally I have Melo as …

Variaudio 3, i find for vocal pitch correction is considerably better than melodyne both in the final results it delivers, and in it's use and integration within Cubase (Especially with the chord track). I often read on forums that time correction is not as good as melodyne, but i never quantise vocals with it so can't give my own opinion there.

Sep 11, 2015 #2 I've used both, but must admit to have used Melodyne alot more.In my case not using the plugin, but bouncing out files and throwing them into melodyne,so the Cubase workflow is far easier, faster and more fluid. That said,I am faster in melodyne but think they are both pretty good. They both blow away the one in LPX imho.

Overall, Melodyne is immensely more powerful than Vari-Audio, mostly because of its polyphonic tuning and sibilant detection capabilities. This is why costs as much as it does for the Editor or Studio versions. If you only need monophonic pitch correction and plan to stay in Cubase, Vari-Audio is a great option.

If Cubase 5 VariAudio has the sonic quality as Steinberg VoiceMachine, then forget about it. It is cool though, that the technology in Melodyne which was amazing and revolutionary when it was introduced is now standard in the major DAWs.

Technically Melodyne should have the better sound quality but VariAudio is so well integrated into Cubase that it has become the "go to" tool for tuning. Share Reply Quote Top Mentioned Manufacturers
