The xtremegamer (and xtremeaudio) are stripped down cards actually based on older designs used in the audigy value line. In fact it actually remains to be seen if these cards really use the X-Fi chip. When given the choice between the xtrememusic, xtremegamer, and xtremeaudio always choose the xtrememusic if you can help it. Nov 1, 2006. #5.

As above avoid the Xtreme Audio. The Xtreme Gamer is the cheapes "real" X-Fi card. I use Vista and never had any issues. I don't use the installation CD, I just download the installer from the creative website.

X-Fi Xtreme Gamer has hardware effects processing and does have the X-Fi chip. It is as good as Xtreme Music but has the standard front panel connector instead of that proprietary drive bay connector on the Xtreme Music. You confuse this card with Xtreme Audio. These are two very different cards - despite similar look.

Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer (Review) ~ Fire Optics

    https://wk-net.blogspot.com/2008/09/creative-x-fi-xtremegamer-review.html
Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer is a very capable card for entertainment, gaming and audio creation. Some people would argue that on-board sound does the job just fine but the sound quality of the XtremeGamer is just head and shoulders over anything on-board. Think most people do not know where or how they install the sound card.

296 posts. Help choosing between Xonar DS vs X-Fi XtremeGamer. I'm having a hard time choosing between the Asus Xonar D1 and Creative X-Fi xTremeGamer soundcard. I currently have Realtek's HD ALC892 on my motherboard and have Logitech Z4 2.1 speakers (I don't ever plan on going 5.1 maybe 4.1 with my monitors built in speakers for extra sound).

    1. GPU: GTX480 850/4400 1.075v. In other words the XtremeGamer is fine, just a bit another form-factor of the card itself. It's smaller. Not sure if you can hook up the front bay to it as well. Also i don't have some settings on the audio console, like DTS decoding etc. Gaming wise the card supports EAX5.0 and DS3D.
