    Yes onboard with a good set of cans will be junk but it will be as junk as a cheap sound card. If you got a audigy card don't waste your money on a X-fi. They are X-fi versions where creative disabled features in the drivers. If you look around you might find your answer to turn your audigy into a X-fi with modded drivers.
