the s9 looks okay but if it lacks aac, gapless and has the typical cowon sound, i think many audiophiles would be put off. the only saving grace in an age where you can purchase gapless players (come on, even cd, md, old rio and ipod have it) is the cowon name and marketing and somewhat good looks despite all the plastic.

The strength of the S9 is the quality of audio it puts out, which I find to be top notch. It's also the first player that has useful EQ presets (a bunch of BBE settings). The bass enhancer sounds very rich, yet still balanced and makes my Denon D1000's and my vehicle audio sound even better than it already did.

I have been loyal to Cowon (X5L - still working) and 32GB S9 - because I like the BBE sound enhancement. I also have UE TripleFI-10 IEMs and (don't laugh) Bose Quietcomfort 15 - I'm not a high end audiophile, but I appreciate midrange kit. Now, my S9 is showing its age and I only have 32GB space - but more music than that.

Besides that I guess the only issue is choosing between the 16gb and 32gb as $100 for 16gb seems a bit pricey but then again its only around $30 than most 16gb ipod touch which is by no means a great mp3 player not to mention the Cowon S9 offers a lot more than other similar MP3 players in functionality, quality and style.
