The 500R is essentially a 400R with a few tweaks, the outside has obviously had a face lift but the internal chassis is basically the same albeit it now has removable hard drive bays. These similarities have some good and bad points, good in that the 400R was a great case with great cooling and plenty of room to build a tidy rig.

I had the same problem with my brand new Corsair Carbide 500R - turned it on for the first time, and smoke came out the case - not very reassuring - found the same as above, the wires melted, and where they touched the case, started to burn the case too! sorry for low quality pics. now the front and side fans won't work!

1. Wire 1 is a splitter wire with two 3 pin connector heads - I have connected my front intake fan wires to this one. 2. Wire 2 is a single wire with a 3 pin connector head - think this should connect to the side fan wire. For now, I have not connected the side fan. 3. Wire 3 is the one having a molex at the end.
