The 4440 has a recovery time switch inside for F, M, and S. For amateur use, "F" will give you solid modulation. I was fortunate to have had dozens of these, literally, thanks to CBS Laboratories closing and unloading their leftovers into a dumpster at at a nearby scrap metal yard.
