I have connected both the red and white audio wires from the PS3 to my Phillips tv, however the sound only is heard on the AV video function, but the HD video (which is connected via the HDMI-DVI cable) is only displayed on the HD video function on the TV. So i was hoping someone would be able to answer the question of the original poster for me.

I bought a LG wide (HDCP) today and hooked up video thru hdmi-dvi (a thing of beauty), I then plugged in the supplied AV cables that came with the PS3 for sound, I bought a y-plug to plug in the ps3's red/white so I can get the 3.5mm plug for my sound card in my PC.

So plug your hdmi/dvi adapater into the ps3 and do the normal hdmi setup. Then plug your composite cable that came as default with the ps3 into the ps3. Then get the 3.5mm Stereo Plug to Two Phono Sockets adapter and plug the red and white bits off the ps3 cable into it.

I have bought an HDMI to DVI adaptor to link my PS3 to the telly. The picture is fine, but I have no audio, which I understand is to be expected after connecting this way. From Googling this situation I am lead to believe that it is possible to still use the composite audio connections by changing the Sound Settings on the PS3.
