There is a service bulletin from Carver about changing the default main out gain of the C-1 preamp. From the factory these units are set for a certain amount of gain. The service bulletin tells you how to change two sets of resistors, R258-R358 and R259-R359, to reduce the line amp gain by 3, 9, 12 and 21 dB.

While I have it apart I figured that I would ask about an issue that I would like to fix while doing the mod. When I turn off the power I get a huge “POW” through my speakers. I am running a C-1 into an M-1.0t and a PRO-L (M-1.5t with low impedance capability?). Back in 1985 I heard that it could be fixed with the addition of a capacitor.

The Carver C-6 Preamp closely resembles the C-1. Are there any major differnces. (Or any differences at all?) Was the C-6 just a remae of the C-1 because it was so popular? I was wondering which would be a better preamp to have.
