When I put either a CD/DVD in my optical drive, I don't have any problems reading documents, opening pictures & videos or starting .exe files, but for some reason audio files will not play. I'll put an audio CD/CD-R into the drive & iTunes WILL start, but none of the songs will play. I'll open VLC, but still no songs will play.

Press the Windows key. Type in computer, select Computer Management. In the hardware tree, open up disk drives, and look for YELLOW warning signs. If there are no indications, and you can see the CD drive, then it may be a mechanical issue. Verify this, and post back!

My issue was that Data CD's would read and play fine, and even Audio CD's would appear correctly in Explorer. They would even launch my Music Player (MusicMatch), but they just wouldn;t play at all. Even if I double clicked them in Explorer, or navigated directly to them in MusicMatch. The CD would appear empty in the App. Very Strange.

I put an audio cd in my windows vista machine and when I go to double click on it to play it, it gives me the following error: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access this file. It does this for any audio cd I put in, but I can put in software cds and these work fine.
